Shut-Lok: A Revolution in Security

In our security-conscious times, there is great scope for new secure-lock products which address the shortcomings of devices which are currently on the market.  Shut-Lok is just such a product, and its worldwide rollout will present opportunities for security system manufacturers, supply chain businesses and end-users alike.

When a secure lock is needed as part of a physical security system, the various types of padlock are what often spring to mind.  Secure locking padlocks are widely available and take many forms, but most are afflicted with certain common design flaws which impact upon their effectiveness.

Almost all padlocks take the form of a hardened shackle attached to a reinforced body.  On most designs, the shackle is of a fixed length appropriate to its intended application.  And on many, the shackle is mounted on a spring which pushes the two components in opposite directions when the lock is closed.  All these factors combined mean that there will inevitably be a small gap between the shackle and the body into which a tool can be inserted, meaning the lock can be forced open.  The most secure locks available may feature rounded bodies or adjustable shackles, but even these are still not immune to leverage tools.

Another way some padlocks can be defeated is by picking.  In some designs, pressing back the shackle and compressing the spring leaves the barrel open to tampering.  To create truly secure lock systems, designers must address these issues.

Shut-Lok is a new type of secure-lock device from Multi-Lok which has been conceived to resist harsh treatment and vandalism.  At the same time as creating one of the most secure locks on the market, we wanted the design to be easy to use and convenient to store.  As a result, the Shut-Lok design takes the form of a small, smooth cylinder, similar to the bullet locks already commonly available.  It fits easily in your pocket and a single lock can be used for many different applications.

It’s inside the device that the real genius of the Shut-Lok is found.  By using a worm gear to open two wings on opposite sides of the lock, the unit can anchor itself into any suitably sized hole.  There is no need for a special receiver device.  The ring at the top of the barrel sits flush against the top of the hole, leaving no gap for intruders to target with tools.  And since there is no spring in the mechanism, it is resistant to picking too.

As one of the most secure lock systems around, the applications for Shut-Lok are almost endless.  These secure locks can be used with existing shutters, bollards, and so on, or supplied as standard equipment with new security product.  Gun-Lok is a development of the Shut-Lok concept specifically designed for firearms, where secure locks are vital to restrict unauthorized access.
